Wild days [Part Two]
Grabbing my iPhone from my pocket as I left work, I dialed my friend Sloan.
“Hello?”
“Sloan, hey, are you still in the mall?”
“Yep, I’ll meet you in the food court?”
“Sounds good, be right there!”
I made my way to the food court and found an empty bench to sit on as I waited for Sloan. I sighed. It seemed as if I’d been gone all day, though in reality it had only been about four hours since I’d left home. A few minutes later, Sloan appeared.
“Hey!” she waved.
“Hey!” I smiled back.
She sat down beside me. “So, we have like two and a half hours before we have to get to church.”
“I’m hungry.” I responded. “What are we going to eat?”
We were tossing around a few ideas when she got a text message.
“Hey did Brit send you the pictures of her car?” I asked.
“Yeah, I think these are it.” she answered.
“Wow,” I said, peering at the pictures of the wreck over her shoulder. “I’m so glad she’s ok.”
A loud SQUEAK! interrupted our thoughts. We instantly looked up as a man passing by nearly fell on his face. A trail of water from behind indicated that he’d been tracking snow on the mall floors, and it had just now almost cost him his footing.
I looked at Sloan. She looked at me. After a brief pause we doubled over in hysterical laughter. The man regained his balance and continued walking, without so much as a glance behind him.
Between gasps of laughter I managed to say a few words.
“Do you…(laugh)…think…(laugh)…he heard us laughing?”
“I don’t know!!” Sloan roared. “I think he was going for the Nobody saw that, just keep walking and don’t look back approach!!”
My eyes began to water. “Oh…my…gosh. That was friggin hilarious!”
“I know!!”
We laughed and laughed until my stomach began to hurt. Oh it felt good! No worries, no problems, just the two of us making fun of a poor guy who nearly fell to his death. The night couldn’t get any better than this!
But it did.
