What Would You Do With $1,000?

What Would You Do With $1,000?

There are many of us who would like to think about what we would do with an extra $1,000. Personally, I haven’t really  wasted a whole lot of time spending money in my head that I don’t have in my hand. Instead, my thought process works more like this:

“How can I make an extra $1,000? What will I do to make it happen?”

Typically, people don’t just get handed a grand for the heck of it. (Wouldn’t that be nice?) Money doesn’t grow on trees. We have to work for it, and at the end of the day, the satisfaction that comes with knowing you worked hard and earned something in return feels awesome.

Now, back to the $1,000.

A few months back, I submitted an application featuring ChargedUp Media to Idea Cafe’s 10th Small Business Grant Competition. Of nearly a thousand small businesses that entered, my business idea made it through to the top 40 semi-finalists. I recruited some votes for myself in the beginning then forgot about it.

I didn’t think a whole lot of the contest again until I got an email several weeks later informing me that I had made it to the top 5 finalists. (Me: “Whoa! SWEET!”) The final five contestants are now competing by public vote for a $1,000 business grant. So am I thinking about what I’d do with $1k now? You betcha baby.

For the sake of this blog post, let’s say I win. Here’s a quick 1k breakdown:

$1,000.00

$300.00 – Three months of GoToWebinar so I can teach others how to use social media for FREE

$250.00 – Promotional handouts and materials for local social media workshops

$150.00 – Better bookkeeping software (writing everything down in notebooks, not so great these days)

$300.00 – Join local Chamber of Commerce and business directories

All of the things I list above are expenses I’ve been putting off, but truly need to improve my business operation. While $1,000 doesn’t seem like all that much once a business is really rolling, it would certainly make a difference for me.

This is where you come in. If you think that my needs are legit and you want to help out, I need you to vote! Just click the link below and you will be directed to the voting page (you may need to register for a free account).

Lastly, I’d love to know…

What would YOU do with $1,000?

fascinating post. I love the creativity you have, Mandee!

I’m at the point that I would invest the entire thousand. I can’t handle having money in the bank… and anything my business needs now is handled with action – not with more tools…

That being said… I’m a book worm and might buy another course for professional development as well…

Mandee, congrats on making it to the top 5! Any idea what set your idea apart from everyone elses? I am impressed with your choices for spending your $1000. I hope for you that you make it to the first spot.
If I had an extra $1000 I would use it to help others become more successful, since that is my ultimate objective. I would probably do this by developing software that helps people get more links to their website. This way to can get more traffic without having to worry how to make it happen from a technical perspective.

    Awesome post!
I love your approach in prioritizing where you would put the money. I totally agree about the webinar being #1. It is such a great way to get free info out to others. Also, in order to get great at making presentations, it is necessary (like most things) to do it often. Most people who get their skills honed doing webinars become awesome presenters in person!

Some great goals there. Sounds like a great competition and I hope you win that $1000. Can’t wait to hear how things go for you. I am inspired to make my own business “wish list” now…so I know what to do with that extra money as it comes in.
